My Ultimate Non-Toxic Baby Essentials List

My Ultimate Non-Toxic Baby Essentials List

I spent hours during my pregnancy researching the most non-toxic newborn and postpartum products possible because there's no way his precious little body is going in a car seat that is loaded with flame retardants, or having clothes on him that are made from plastic.

It's SO easy to make these choices, especially when I've literally given you the better option. We should not be choosing convenience over our babies' lifelong health when a swap is so easy. Aka don't get the car seat that converts into a stroller. One, it's not good for their posture or breathing (babies shouldn't be in a car seat long—look it up), and two, it's loaded with flame retardants that are toxic as fck and not necessary.

So here’s what we’ve landed on for our baby's first months:

  • Purebaby: Australian brand for basics, the softest baby outfits, play mats, and more.

  • Aster & Oak: Australian brand with beautiful, soft organic clothing.

  • Colored Organics: US company for all organic cotton baby outfits. We’ve gotten a lot of onesies from them.

  • Coterie: Ultra-soft, non-toxic diapers (aka nappies).

  • Baby Wipes: We've began using dry wipes sprayed with filtered water when we're at home, so that zero preservatives are making contact with his sweet, sensitive bum. When we're on the go, we use Coterie wipes.

  • Primally Pure: Their baby oil, baby powder, and baby balm are essentials for  nappy changes as well as all over baby’s body as needed.

  • Ubbi Steel Diaper Bin: A bin doesn’t really need to be “non toxic,” so we got this one that was highly recommended.

  • Butterr Nursing Pillow: I chose this one because it’s cute and 100% cotton, so his bare skin isn’t resting on polyester crap.

  • Charlie Crane: Their rocker and bassinet are both made out of cotton and not treated/stained wood.

  • Portier: Linen and cotton baby carriers that are breathable and still cute.

  • Solly Baby: Their wraps are buttery soft and breathable. It’s TENCEL™ Modal and so the fibers are made from wood pulp (I will never put fabric made from plastic on my baby’s skin).

  • BabyBay: A co-sleeper crib made of untreated wood.

  • Keekaroo Peanut Changer: Wipeable, soft, and non-toxic changing pad. We add a cotton change pad like this over it so it's not so cold for him to lie on.

  • Revive Red Light: For those middle-of-the-night feedings without waking everyone up.

  • Nuliie Silicone Milk Storage: We’re using this for milk storage instead of plastic bags (and the best bit is that we can reuse them for milk/baby food!).

  • Matyz Glass Bottles: We are not doing plastic bottles, we are doing glass. These also fit with my breast pump so the milk can get pumped into a glass bottle versus plastic.

  • Bumbleride Stroller: THE most non-toxic option on the market. You’d be surprised at the crap that is in other strollers out there. And obviously, your baby spends a lot of time sitting in these.

  • Nuna Car Seat: Cleaner and safer than many alternatives, and fits perfectly with our Bumbleride Stroller (you just need to buy the attachment off the Bumbleride website).

  • Sheepskin Pram Liner: Lambskin helps to regulate temperature, keeping your baby cool in summer and warm in winter. Lambskin is naturally hypoallergenic and researchers have also found that the microbes in lambskin can boost the immune system and reduce the chances of developing asthma later in life. A German study found that babies who had slept on lambskin for the first 3 months of their life had 41% less chance of having asthma by the age of 10!

I know it can feel overwhelming when you start Googling all the baby things... flame retardants, phthalates, PFAS, VOCs... like can we not just have a cute onesie that doesn’t off-gas a chemical cloud? But that’s exactly why I wanted to put this together—to save you the stress, the scrolling, and the decision fatigue. If it's on this list, you're good.

You don’t need to do it all. You don’t need to panic over one non-organic product. Just anchor into this: every cleaner swap you feel good about is more than enough. Your baby doesn’t need a sterile bubble, he or she needs a relaxed, regulated mama... and maybe a buttery-soft carrier that doesn’t leak plastic into his body.
