Why Our AI Obsession Is Making Us Less Human (And What No One’s Talking About)—Part 1 of the AI Series

Picture this: in-between gardening in the backyard, organizing baby clothes, and baking carrot cake (yes, her maternity leave is ALREADY a total feminine vibe 🤤)… Monica lands on an Instagram post and immediately goes on a fiery tangent in her IG stories.

She then sent me a five‑minute, six‑second voice message (and there have been MANY voice messages exchanged on this topic ever since). The fire is real. And her exact words to me were: “I know we get fired up about this topic, so I finally HAD to say something, and maybe you should whip something up into a blog post to share with everyone!?”

So, here I am, fired up and eager to share our hot take on AI with you 🔥, including:

  • The serious dangers (we feel) of AI misuse.
  • How we actually use AI here at MYH—extremely intentionally and ethically.

First: Who’s even writing this, you ask?

Hi 👋 I’m Olivia, Monica's right-hand Chief Program & Client Experience Officer. Before I started working for Monica about 3ish years ago now, we were internet friends. We met online around 2019, and then we met IRL in Vancouver for a work x girl's trip back in October of last year. You can watch the BTS of our trip via YouTube vlog HERE. ⬇️

(‼️ WARNING: HILARIOUS CONTENT)

And yes, we finally met for real life HUGS after working together for that long. It was totally worth it. Wild how we meet friends on the internet these days and then totally hit it off!? SO fun. I pinch myself every day for finding a friend, and now BOSS, like Monica. So, so, so lucky. But ANYWAY, thought I'd share a bit of our love story (lol) so that you can understand who I am and why the hell I'm writing this.

BACK TO THE STORY...

The Instagram post itself was a handful of memes of miserable-looking women with the caption: "Mood because ChatGPT is down." See screenshots of Monica's initial rant below.

When she saw this post, none of us had even realized ChatGPT was down. Zero idea. This got Monica, and then me when she looped me in, so fired up. Because in our opinion, THIS IS WHY people should not be relying so heavily on AI for their entire business—and for some people, their entire livelihood.

We're slowly being baited to use ChatGPT as a replacement for:

A therapist
A marriage counselor
An oracle
An astrologer
A marketing guru
A parenting expert

…and the list goes on. 👀

So then, what happens when it's down for three days and you're full-on panicking because you literally don't know how to make a decision anymore, or trust your own God-given discernment, or plan out your content strategy, or write a freaking EMAIL.

You guys. This is nuts.

Terrifying, really. And to use it as your therapist or think it can read your birth chart in the same way a human can!? Not. Even. Possible. It can't understand the nuances or the context or the intricate details... it's just regurgitating a bunch of information from multiple places on the internet.

IT'S. NOT. THE. SAME.

Not to mention—we're slowly losing the skill, the gift, the ART of being able to tell a story through our organic written word.

Simon Sinek said it beautifully in a super recent interview I listened to on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show HEREAnd so did Monica—it was seriously so perfectly timed with this conversation we were already having on this topic!!

On the podcast, he said that he used to be able to remember everyone's phone number by memory. But then, cell phones came out, and now you don't have to know anyone's phone number anymore. Which sure, isn't a huge deal, but it's more about the PRINCIPLE of it. If you stop writing your own captions, emails, blogs, BOOKS (God help us), etc…

Well, then what?

You'll forget how (this is actually proven now, after an MIT lab study titled "Your Brain on ChatGPT"). Your creative well will dry up. And what are the implications of that? Knowing what Monica teaches about the ENERGETIC root of our physical manifestations... surely, this will come out in undeniable ways. But Simon said the scariest part, really, is that one of the biggest consequences is we'll just... and we'll stop growing

Because growth is an inevitable part of the journey…
in writing a book
in building a business
in nurturing a marriage…

What happens when we skip over that and just immediately use AI to do it for us... what is the cost? It's our growth. It's our blood, sweat, and tears. It's a large part of what makes us human.

He mentioned in the episode, too, that they could've easily done the interview on Zoom, through a computer. But it wouldn't have been the same. There's a reason Lauryn and Michael invited him to their studio, in real life, human to human, to speak with him. It's the same reason that Monica always says NOTHING can touch an in-person event. Sure, she could do The Immersion online, and make it "easier" for herself and a lot of the people who end up coming. BUT, it would absolutely not be the same—and it would, ultimately, be doing you a disservice.

We're lonelier than we've ever been, but more "connected" than we've ever been (Monica actually talks about this in her book and has research to prove it).

People are using AI more than ever, but it's not solving the ROOT issue. Instead of hiring the coach to support you, or going to the retreat, or being in-person—people are choosing to build a relationship with a robot and being sold the idea that it's "the missing piece." The thing that reduces mortality and will greatly INCREASE the quality and longevity of your life is REAL relationships.

It's being heart-to-heart in real life.
It's hugging someone, laughing with someone, and doing life together.

That can't be replaced through a screen. Sure, online relationships are incredible and online programs can be massively transformational—but these things can't replace being in person with real people.

I'm going to leave you with this for now, but in part two (of three!) of this blog series, I’ll move into the deeper ethical and generational implictions of our obsession with (and reliance on) AI, plus how we actually DO work with AI at MYH—without compromising our values. Don’t miss it!!

PS: If your heart is craving IRL, human-to-human loving support and transformation, get your buns on the waitlist for The Immersion in Atlanta this fall.
