205: The shit side of business
Today I want to talk about the shit side of business and how sometimes I hate being a business owner, I hate being a boss and things feel really hard. I want to share this side with you because often we don’t see the behind the scenes or the nitty gritty and this leads us to glamorise and romanticise different roles and careers.
I love my job, I love my business and I love what I do but I am also human, and I have moments and days where I want to say, ‘I’m out, peace out bitches!’ These days and moments don’t mean that I’m not grateful for my business or that I don’t love my job, what it does mean is that I am having and living a human experience. Let’s stop faking the fact that we love every facet of our life, every second of the day and instead show authenticity and be truthful to ourselves. Faking happiness leads to being miserable but showing authenticity leads to fulfilment.
I am current making new hires which is so much work, training people, researching people and holding interviews which, with an amazing candidate can be amazing but if I haven’t been impressed by anybody and have spent hours conducting calls, it can feel like a waste of time and make me think I should just do it all myself. On the other side of hiring, firing someone is the worst thing in the world. There is a biological fear of taking away that support when it comes to health bills, food and shelter and wondering whether they will still have easy access to these things without me paying them.
It can be a lot when you are coordinating a team and managing projects, you always have something in your head and have your phone blowing up with questions and updates constantly. Problems and mistakes can highlight and bring forward emotions, insecurities and fear of rejection which means I have to always bring it back to the facts. Focusing on the facts has made me such a better boss but it can be difficult as woman because wanting to care, nurture and look after in in my nature. It is hard and it’s literally going against my biology, but it is something I had to learn.
I want you to know that it’s not all glamorous, it is hard and there are so many things that people don’t talk about in business that are more on the ugly side of it. You have to embrace these moments and you can’t run away from it. It doesn’t matter what job you have, there are going to be things that you don’t like doing. I have my dream job and I don’t love every part of it, I don’t like doing my account shit and that does not mean I don’t want to do my job. You have to embrace the humanness and see the beauty in the chaos, the pain, the frustration and the anger. These feelings show me things. If I am constantly getting annoyed, angry or frustrated about one scenario, that is telling that the scenario is an issue that needs to be fixed. Getting frustrated or annoyed by certain aspects of your business is challenging but it is also a great thing to know. Instead of bypassing that experience feel into what you can fix, eliminate or clear out so that your business can feel good!
Having and growing a business is not the easiest thing in the world and it isn’t for everyone. So many people these days think that coaching is a quick buck, cop out career that’s easy. To be a really good coach and having a thriving business takes a certain personality, a perfect blend of showing up and surrendering. All of the energy of flow and surrender and abundance in your business and life comes from being okay with having these human moments. Let the energy flow through you rather than pushing it away and ignoring it which creates stagnancy. That stagnancy will then create scarcity.
Please don’t fall into the trap of this myth of feminine business. Not everything is flow and fairies, especially when you are just starting out. In the beginning it’s show up, be consistent and keep going. If you are a business owner or about to start your own business, I highly recommend checking out my Bad Ass Bitches Academy (BABA) which opens for enrolment next month. BABA is a feminine business program with a lot of masculine structure so that you can actually be in your feminine.
